Operating leadership for B2B SaaS.
Sandscope Management gives SaaS businesses and their investors hands-on operating help, from someone who has run one.
Start a conversationSandscope is Alex Sandu's practice. He has spent 15 years on the operating side of enterprise software, most of them close enough to customers to know which plans survive contact with them. He takes on a few engagements at a time and does the work himself.
Fractional and interim leadership
CEO, COO or GM cover while a SaaS business restructures, or waits for its next leader.
How this worksSales performance and compensation
How the sales team is paid, and whether the system behind it is worth what it costs.
How this worksTransactions and due diligence
Operating diligence for buyers, and sale readiness for founders and their bankers.

Start a conversationWhat we do
Sandscope Management does three kinds of work, all of them things Alex has done himself as an operator. He leads every engagement and brings in specialists only where the work needs them.
Fractional and interim leadership
For SaaS companies that need a senior operator now, not after a six-month search. Alex set up a company as a fully virtual organisation after COVID, took it through two rounds of restructuring, and kept staff turnover close to zero afterwards. That is most of the job: make the hard changes, and keep the people you need.
- Interim CEO, COO or GM roles
- Restructuring and reorganisation, including remote and distributed teams
- Operating reviews for PE sponsors and boards
- Operating cadence: KPIs, forecasting and board reporting
Sales performance and compensation
For revenue, sales operations and finance leaders who own incentive compensation. Alex spent 15 years on the software side of it and renewed multi-million-dollar enterprise contracts for three to five years at a time, so he knows what customers need and what they end up paying for.
- Incentive compensation strategy and plan review
- Build, buy or outsource decisions for comp administration
- Compensation software selection and implementation recovery
- Enterprise renewals and pricing for SaaS vendors
Transactions and due diligence
For private equity sponsors assessing a SaaS business, and for founders and bankers preparing one for sale. Buyers end up asking an operator's questions: will the customers renew, will the team stay, are the numbers real. Alex has spent years answering them for boards and customers.
- Buy-side operational and commercial diligence on SaaS targets
- Sell-side readiness: data room, management presentation and buyer Q&A
- Red-flag reviews: revenue quality, customer concentration, contracts, controls and entity structure
- Carve-outs, transition services and post-close 100-day plans
Alex Sandu
Founder and Managing Director
Alex founded Sandscope Management to work with SaaS companies on the problems he has spent 15 years solving as an operator.
He started out translating business requirements into software, and still looks at a business from the delivery side up. He went on to lead Professional Services, then served as EVP and Chief of Staff, running operational and strategic affairs. In 2023 he became President and CEO of Optymyze Pte Ltd, whose platform runs sales performance and incentive compensation for large enterprises and has been rated a Leader by Gartner and IDC.
As CEO he led an organisation of more than 100 people across Europe, Asia and the US. He set it up as a fully virtual organisation after COVID, took it through two restructurings, and kept turnover near zero afterwards. He renewed its largest customers, multi-million-dollar accounts, on three- to five-year contracts, and worked with the board and its advisers on the company's strategic options.
He is governance-first by habit. Decisions get written down, and controls are built to survive an audit.
Alex holds a degree in Systems Engineering from Politehnica University of Bucharest. He works in English and Romanian and is based in Bucharest.
